December is coming and it’s time to plan your Christmas holidays. How would you like to enjoy Christmas in Menorca?
Menorca is not only an island for holidaymakers, it also has a very special charm in winter and, even more so at Christmas.
At Christmas time, Menorca offers a very cosy and familiar atmosphere. You and your family can enjoy the street life, with all kinds of activities for adults and children alike. It is the ideal place for those looking to enjoy the festive season in a peaceful and tranquil setting, without the rushing crowds.
The temperatures on the island bear little or no resemblance to those in other parts of Spain, making Menorca an ideal place to enjoy a Christmas without too much cold.
If you’re wondering what to do in Minorca at Christmas, here are some ideas for you to make the most of the festive period.

Christmas markets in Menorca
You will find several Christmas markets on the island. Some of the most popular are the Christmas Fair in Mahón and the Christmas market in the old capital of Ciutadella.
In Mahón, and on the most central streets of the city, you will find various stalls selling Christmas products, handicrafts, gastronomy, etc., accompanied by live music.
In Ciutadella you will find the traditional Christmas market in the streets near the beautiful cathedral.
Special Christmas concerts
The Teatre Principal in Mahón offers a classic Christmas concert, performed by the students of the Professional Conservatory of Menorca. On the other hand, there is also a concert by the Mahón Music Band, which includes a varied repertoire ranging from John Lennon to Alfred Reed. This concert is held on the 18th December.
If you visit the island a little later, you can also enjoy the New Year’s Eve concert with the OCIM, Orquestra de Cambra de l’Illa de Menorca.
In Ciutadella, the Municipal Music Band offers its traditional Christmas concert, which is held in the Multifunctional Hall of Canal Salat on 17th December.
In Es Mercadal you can also attend the Christmas concert offered by the Banda des Mercadal, with the show “The Ghost Ship”, in the Multifunctional Hall on the 23rd of December.
Visit by the Royal Pageboys
For the youngest members of the family, being able to hand in their Christmas letters to the royal Pageboys is a very special moment. In Menorca, you will have the privilege of being able to do so with practically no queuing or crowds.
What’s more, several towns on the island also organise a New Year’s Eve ringing of the bells, held exclusively for the little ones.
Ice skating
Ice skating is a favorite Christmas plan for the whole family.
In Menorca, the ice skating rink will be set up in Alaior, outside the Sports Centre, opening its doors between 16th and the 23rd of December and then between the 26th to the 30th, while in January skating will be available from the 2nd to the 7th. The Alaior Christmas Market will also surround the rink.
Hot chocolate with coca bamba
In December, with a much quieter and colder atmosphere, it is more appealing than ever to sit in a café and have a good hot chocolate accompanied by coca bamba and/or ensaimada, a typical Menorcan pastry that you will find in many of the island’s cafés and/or bars.
